In Kalamkari painting natural pigments are drawn with hand on fabric. There are two types of Kalamkali: Srikalahasti and Machilipatnam. Srikalahasti painting is done directly on fabric, no resist is used. Indian artisans are practicing Srikalahasti Kalamkari since the time of Vijayanagara Empire.
