Patan Patola

Patola is a dual ikat woven sari, generally produced from silk, produced in Patan, Gujarat, India. As per to some historians, the art of Patola weaving was welknown in the 4th Century in “ Ajanta ” caves, which resembles the tie- dyes form of patola. Legend says that over 700 patola embroiderers came to the palace of Raja Kumarpal, on the personalized request of king himself. The Solanki( Chalukya) rulers used to dress in patola silk themselves on important events. After the descent of Solanki rulers, salvis began a rich trade in Gujarat.
